The works DARK DAYS PAYS examine architecture as an expression of power, incorporating multiple fractional elements that when paired together suggest a complicity between the parts. Architectural fragments, pieces of precious detritus, and symbols of power, violence, and aggression meet in a sculptural Venn diagram of association: a decommissioned nuclear reactor and in-ground-pool meet a trompe-l’œil pile of cigarette butts and mirror-polished beer cans; a three-story free-standing escalator freed from its architectural confines is dressed up in military drag. These works are stream-of-consciousness propositions that question many of the comforts of modern life, suggesting a complicity between convenience and aggression.
