Edifice Complex

wood, steel, acrylic paint
Edifice Complex is a three dimensional cruciform mash-up of urban architectural styles – Victorian row home, bland twentieth century utilitarianism and heavy-handed contemporary condominiums (to name a few) which calls to mind the ongoing housing crisis and the resulting near collapse of the world economic system. As the title suggests, this piece is about the relationship between façade and our ambition to surpass the accomplishments of previous generations. Rendered in a style which evokes both model railroad and doll house obsessiveness, this piece acts as a catalyst to examine our own fetishes and vain ambitions. In this light, no one is safe; not you, not me.
